The Family Resource Center offers “Game Plan for Success,” a youth club that empowers teens who are at-risk with the tools and opportunities needed to avoid risky behaviors, such as dropping out of school and teen pregnancy, and become leaders with a powerful vision for their future.
The Family Resource Center’s Game Plan for Success Youth Club has had a great impact in the community. Teens are able to have fun while learning life skills and beginning to better understand their self-worth. Game Plan for Success teens do a variety of activities throughout the year.
Here are some examples of the types of activities:
One year, club members organized a Cyber Clinic for the seniors from the Heritage Center. These clinics where held over three weeks for an hour each session. During the sessions, teens helped guide and teach the seniors how to use their tablets, cellphones, laptops and even GPS devices. When the seniors finished their sessions, there was a celebration at the end and everyone received certificates for all their hard work!
In 2015, Game Plan for Success was very involved in taking a stand against bullying. The group was recognized by receiving a proclamation making October “Bully Awareness Month” in the city of Sterling by the Mayor Dan Torres. The teens distributed orange ribbons to businesses around Sterling and to their peers in school.
